The first L'Arche community in the United States was founded in 1972 in Erie, Pennsylvania. Today, L’Arche USA has 16 communities located in Iowa, Virginia, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, Kansas, Alabama, Massachusetts, Washington, Oregon, New York, California and Washington D.C. as well as two emerging communities in Missouri and Georgia.

L’Arche communities in the United States provide homes and work programs for over 200 core members and the almost 300 assistants who live and work with them. Living, working, praying and playing together, core members and assistants are transformed through relationships of mutuality, respect and companionship.

While some communities have ties to the Roman Catholic Church through their founding members, today the communities are more ecumenical and welcome people of all faiths. L’Arche USA also receives people from other countries who want to live temporarily in the States as volunteers in our communities.
